He wanted the freedom to request an ASL interpreter without the restrictions of a traditional interpreting agency. He came up with the idea of an online marketplace where consumers and freelance interpreters could connect on their own terms. He brought that idea to Chad Taylor, and Linguabee was born. Mines was founded in 2014 by a small group of computer scientists working on an artificial intelligence research project at Stanford University.
