Apple Valley, MN-based Questar Assessment has Appointed Keith Koch as Chief Technology Officer
Questar Assessment Inc. is a Kâ12 assessment solutions provider focused on building a bridge between learning and accountability. As a wholly-owned, independently-operated subsidiary of Educational Testing Service, we share a belief that better measurement solutions can make a positive impact on education. Our fresh approach to meaningful assessment, our technical innovations that set the standard for scalability and reliable online testing performance, and the way we are reimagining how assessments can empower educators with insights that improve instruction are raising expectations about what it means to be an assessment partner.
Keith Koch is Questar’s Chief Technology Officer. A leading expert on how people interact with virtual environments and on how synchronous face-to-face interactions can also be delivered in asynchronous virtual environments, he provides leadership for ongoing product development and oversees all technology innovation, talent, and operations. Prior to Questar, Keith served as CTO of Sophia Learning, a leading “flip the classroom” platform providing over 40,000 online tutorials and sophisticated cloud-based learning management tools to K12 teachers and students. Before Sophia, Keith was CTO of a behavioral healthcare startup focused on improving outcomes of patients through evidence-based treatments delivered via telemedicine. A large portion of Keith’s technology career was with Capella Education Company where he left as Vice President of Online Products and User Experience. During his 12-year career at Capella, Keith was recognized as one of the top 10 innovators in higher education by The Chronicle of Higher Education, and the company won numerous awards for its virtual campus, classes, and processes, including the IMS Global Learning Consortium “Best Outcomes-based Learning Solution” award and numerous “Best in Class” online course and interactive media awards. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota, Keith returned for a Master of Arts from the University’s College of Design, where he focused on human interaction within virtual environments. His project thesis — creating the Brandon-Hall award-winning 2 Minute Advisor for Capella University — was a real-world application of his studies.
