POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for creating and implementing long-term financial plans and strategies that protect and maximize the returns on a multi-billion dollar portfolio consisting of a mix of private and public assets. He/She will have direct responsibility for the teams focused on taxes, real estate, investment management, cash management and accounting. This position will work as part of the larger Vulcan executive team to achieve organizational objectives.
Reporting directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Financial Officer will work across the appropriate heads of business on the operational side of Vulcan Inc. Additionally, the CFO will interface with Vulcan`s affiliates such as the Allen Institutes, EMP Museum, Trailblazers and Seahawks.
The successful candidate will be a seasoned and respected industry professional with a minimum of 20 years of financial business management experience, with demonstrated success in general management of business units or companies, and management of diversified holdings or initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership
• Establish credibility throughout the organization as a solution-based leader for the challenges facing the business.
• Create strategic plans that drive the activities associated with the security and investment of the organization`s assets and funds.
• Ensure investments align with Vulcan`s goals and risk tolerance.
• Foster ongoing development of the existing team through a shared vision, alignment on roles and direction and reporting on key impact metrics.
• Attract and retain key talent.
• Participate as a member of the Executive Council.
• Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments.
Financial Reporting, Control and Budget
• Ensure timely, consistent and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the COO/President, Owner, and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
• Plan, develop, direct and evaluate the organization`s fiscal function and performance.
• Sponsor the development and enhancement of organizational policies and procedures and employ systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
• Continuously improve the budgeting process through operational strategy and the education of department managers on the financial issues that drive and impact department budgets.
Treasury
• Carry overall responsibility for the care and custody of the organization`s cash, and other financial assets and banking operations and relationships.
• Direct the treasury function that is responsible for managing the firm`s daily liquidity needs while also maximizing the returns on those liquid assets.
• Negotiate/arrange external financing vehicles when necessary.
Tax
• Direct the department responsible for the establishment and implementation of a tax strategy that minimizes tax liabilities through planning, researching, executing, and defending all federal, state, local and foreign taxes applicable to the corporation.
