Tom Cochran is the Chief Technology Officer at Atlantic Media, publisher of The Atlantic, Quartz, Government Executive and National Journal. As CTO, he is charged with leading the successful execution of business strategy through industry-leading digital and enterprise technology. Prior to joining the Atlantic Media, he was the Director of New Media Technologies for the White House, leading the team to provide a secure, stable, and scalable infrastructure across all White House digital properties, enabling the amplification of the President’s message. At the White House, his team was responsible for leading the technical execution of the “We the People” petition application, connecting the public directly with the Administration. He has spent his entire career in Washington working in digital media and technology across numerous industries and clients including USDA, HHS, the DNC, Senator Ted Kennedy, Blue Cross Blue Shield, PhRMA, Best Buy, and Target Corp. Tom is also an avid professional and personal blogger, contributing to the Harvard Business Review, All Things Digital, Entrepreneur, and Digiday. His personal blogging project is running GhostsofDC.org and its sister site, GhostsofBaltimore.org, both dedicated to the lost and untold history of their respective cities. He has grown these from concept to an aggregate monthly audience of 50,000 unique viewers and 150,000 page views.
