About the Person

Steve Fleagle is the Chief Information Officer and an Associate Vice President at the University of Iowa. He has held this position since 2005, after serving as the UI's Director of Telecommunication and Network Services for five years. He also spent ten years as the technical director of the Cardiovascular Image Processing Laboratory, a research laboratory at the university. Higher education collaborations, particularly focused on networking infrastructure and services, are of chief interest to Steve and he has spent much of his career founding and leading such ventures. Steve was one of the founders of the BOREAS (Broadband Optical Research, Education and Science) Network, a collaboration between the Universities of Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa State University, and has been a frequent contributor to the Northern Tier Network Consortium, currently serving as president of that organization. Steve was also a founding member of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation's (CIC) OmniPoP, a network collaboration that brings together 8 of leading higher education gigapops in the Midwest, and is the CIO lead advisor to the OmniPoP Technical Team. Steve is the immediate past-chair of the CIC CIOs and is also on the steering committee and serves as secretary of the Common Solutions Group, another consortium working together on common infrastructure and tools for institutions of higher education.
