Baxters Food Group Limited, also known as Baxters of Speyside or Baxters, is a food processing company, based in Fochabers, Scotland.
In 1933, brothers Jack and Bill Hume set up a modest dehydration processing plant in Vacaville, California, using a technology that was later applied to potatoes. This was the beginning of Basic American Foods. In the mid 1950s, Basic American Foods established a potato processing plant in Blackfoot, Idaho, where the first instant potato product that could be rehydrated with boiling water was developed. This led to a series of innovative potato products for the foodservice industry that includes the brands Potato Pearls®, Golden Grill®, Classic Casserole® and Savory Series™. As the company grew, additional plants were built in Idaho and Washington. In response to a customer need for laborsaving quick-prep beans, Basic American Foods introduced Santiago® Refried Beans in 1986. American Foods Group is owned by the holding company: Rosen`s Diversified Inc. Rosen`s Diversified was founded in 1946 by Elmer Rosen and Ludwig Rosen. They began buying livestock in rural areas and hauling it to St. Paul, Omaha, Sioux City and beyond. In the late 1950s, they began selling feed, fertilizer and chemicals to farmers. They entered the “ag chem” business at the right time and grew along with it. In 1974, the Rosen brothers again expanded by purchasing a packing facility, which marked the company`s entrance into the beef-processing industry. Thereafter was the purchase of the beef processor, American Foods Group and the trucking line, America`s Service Line.
