Northwestern University is a private institution founded in 1851 to serve the Northwest Territory, an area that now includes the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and part of Minnesota. In 1853 the founders purchased a 379-acre tract of land on the shore of Lake Michigan 12 miles north of Chicago. They established a campus and developed the land near it, naming the surrounding town Evanston in honor of one of the University`s founders, John Evans. After completing its first building in 1855, Northwestern began classes that fall with two faculty members and 10 students.
About the Person
Sean Reynolds joined Northwestern University as the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at Northwestern University in the spring of 2011. At Northwestern, Reynolds has campus wide responsibility for the information technology environment, leading and working with a broad range of University constituents in the ongoing planning and implementation of information technologies that supports the University’s core missions. Prior to joining Northwestern, Reynolds spent 25 years in informational technology roles in higher education. Most recently, as the Chief Information Officer for Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. While in Canada, Reynolds was very active in supporting national, provincial and local collaboration for information technology initiatives. He was instrumental in the creation of the Canadian University Council of CIO’s (CUCCIO) and served as a founding board member and Vice President. He also served on several other Canadian national and provincial advisory boards related to research and innovation infrastructure, including Canada’s Advanced Research and Innovation Network (CANARIE) and the Canadian Access Federation. Since arriving at Northwestern, Reynolds has become a member of the Big Ten Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) CIO group. He is serving on the Board of Trustees at the Adler Planetarium with a role of Chairperson of the technology subcommittee of the Board, and participates as an Advisory board member to Microsoft. Reynolds holds a B.A and M.A in Economics from the University of Guelph.
