About the Person

Scott Studham serves as vice president and chief information officer for the University of Minnesota. In this role, he provides strategic leadership to a portfolio of research, academic and administrative technologies serving one of the country’s largest public university systems. Studham has played an instrumental role in building a high-performing technology platform to help drive the academic mission of the University. He has created an award-winning, customer-focused technology team, improved the efficiency of core enterprise technologies, and created one of higher education’s most advanced information security programs. In 2013, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal named him “CIO of The Year.” In 2015, the University of Minnesota was named to InformationWeek’s Elite 100 as one of the nation’s most innovative users of information technology. An emerging voice on the power of personalized, computer-assisted learning technologies, Studham draws on nearly 20 years of experience to offer a compelling point of view on the role these technologies can play in American education. He maintains that institutions that embrace the transformative potential of these technologies will enjoy a competitive advantage in higher education’s rapidly changing landscape. He is an expert in super computing, cyber security and innovative academic technologies. Prior to his role at the University of Minnesota, Studham served as chief information officer for the University of Tennessee and chief information officer for Oakridge National Laboratory. He also has served in leadership roles at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and IBM. Studham holds a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in chemistry from Washington State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee. Away from the office, Studham is active in his community and enjoys SCUBA, cycling and swimming. He and his spouse, Kim, reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They have two children.
