About the Person

Robyn East is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Systems and Chief Information Officer at the Department of the Treasury. In this capacity, she serves as Treasury's principal advisor on information technology issues. Ms. East is responsible for acquiring and managing information resources and provides broad leadership in planning, implementing, and managing Departmental and bureau technology resources. Ms. East is also responsible for formulating policies and programs to maximize the value of Treasury's $3B technology portfolio and manage investment risks across the Department. Ms. East joined the Department of Treasury on March 28, 2011. Prior to joining the Department of the Treasury, Ms. East served as the Deputy CIO at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and managed the daily operations of the central information technology organization. Her responsibilities included development and implementation of IT policy, negotiation of all major IT contracts, oversight of the information security program, and oversight of central IT business services. Accomplishments included establishment of a multi-year Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project to replace the University's aging administrative systems, creation of enterprise data management policy and process, initiation of a University-wide information security program and the implementation of Information Technology Service Management, a set of best practices for management of technology organizations. Before joining the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Ms. East served as the executive director of the administrative applications department in Information Systems and Services at The George Washington University (GW). While at GW, she managed enterprise applications, data administration, the University's web presence, the budget of the central information technology organization, the strategic IT plan, development of IT policy and procedures, and IT communications. Accomplishments included establishment of an enterprise portal, completion of ERP projects to replace or upgrade the University's financial, human resource/payroll and student information systems, and multiple awards for excellence in administrative systems. Ms. East received her bachelor's degree from the Mississippi University for Women and completed her graduate work at North Texas State University.
