About the Person

Richard A. Barry is co-founder and chief technical officer of Sycamore Networks, Inc., where he is responsible for network and product architecture.Prior to co-founding Sycamore Networks, Dr. Barry was the chief network architect of the Advanced Networks Group (formerly know as the Optical Communications Technology Group) at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory, where he architected and co-developed high speed WDM and OTDM (soliton) optical networks. Dr. Barry's experience in optical technology also includes a key role in the development of the first all-optical wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) network testbed, known as the All-Optical Network (AON), for which he was a principle architect. Previously, Dr. Barry was an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at George Washington University in Washington, DC.He is also the author of over 40 technical publications and a former editor at IEEE Network Magazine.Dr. Barry received his B.S., M.E., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
