About the Person
Peter Tseronis is the Department of Energy`s (DOE) first Chief Technology Officer (CTO), is responsible for providing strategic direction and vision and is charged with establishing a formal, sustainable federal technology deployment program for bringing innovative solutions to tough challenges. He is the executive sponsor of the DOE`s Information Technology Strategic Roadmap, and conducted the first DOE-wide crowdsourcing initiative to help identify how technology can support the mission programs. His support has also helped foster innovative programs such as Innovation and Technology Summits, sharing information on new technologies and partnership opportunities across DOE, fostering an agile methodology for technology pilots, as well as leading enterprise programs to investigate and plan the deployment of services across DOE and activities focused on citizen engagement. Pete is focused on identifying opportunities for enterprise IT transformation, including cloud computing services, geographic information systems, and mobility solutions. Recognized as a thought leader and transformation agent for government IT, Pete focuses on the importance and impact of information management and technologies in supporting federal mission objectives. As the DOE CTO, Pete helps bridge the divide among public and private sectors as well as across federal agencies, and ultimately helps ensure that DOE has world-class services to support its mission. Federally, Pete is engaged with numerous policy initiatives to represent the interests of the Department and incorporate these strategies into DOE`s IT management practices. As a result of his dedication, Pete has been asked to lead numerous federal initiatives, such as Federal Cloud First Task Force, the deployment and enhancements to energy.data.gov, as well other activities to mature Federal IT Infrastructure, including chairing the Federal IPv6 Task Force. Prior to joining the DOE, Pete served as the CTO and Director of Network Services for the U.S. Department of Education. During his 8 years in this role, Pete assumed a multi-million dollar budget to transform divergent voice, video, and data communications into an enterprise-wide collaboration solution. Pete received his B.A. in Communications from Villanova University and earned his M.S. in Information and Telecommunication Systems from Johns Hopkins University. Pete began his federal career more than 20 years ago and his leadership, transformational skills and results-oriented approach have been recognized through numerous awards, including being a two-time recipient of Federal Computer Week`s Federal 100 Award.
