About the Person
Kristin D. Russell is a dynamic and innovative executive with more than twenty years experience in leading operations, services, and information technology (IT) functions. In February 2011, Kristin was appointed by Governor Hickenlooper to serve as the state's Secretary of Technology and Chief Information Officer. As the Chief Information Officer, she is responsible for the overall information systems function statewide and to increase the effectiveness of government through the use of shared information and technology. As the Secretary of Technology, she leads IT economic development for the state and is responsible for promoting Colorado as a headquarters location for new technology companies and attracting tech workers to Colorado. Kristin also chairs the Colorado Innovation Network Board of Advisors. Prior to joining the Governor's Office, she was the Vice President of Global IT Service Operations at Oracle where she was responsible for all data centers and computing operations worldwide. Kristin led the organization that provided all infrastructure services for Oracle's internal business operations, as well as the external lines of business such as Cloud Services, Oracle CRM On Demand, and Oracle University. Preceding her affiliation with Oracle, Kristin served as Vice President of Global IT Operations for Sun Microsystems, Inc. where she led the team that provisioned IT solutions and services to Sun's extended enterprise, supporting in excess of 40,000 Sun employees and partners around the globe. While at Sun, Kristin spent many years in various leadership roles within Services, supporting Sun's top customers in the field and providing remote technical support of Sun's extensive platform, operating system, and networking technologies. Kristin has also held roles in customer management, statistical process control analysis and training and development while at Citigroup and Southern Pacific Transportation Lines. Kristin has a degree in International Affairs from the University of Colorado, and is a graduate of the Colorado Executive Development in Residence program at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Kristin serves on the boards of CTA – Colorado's Technology Association, the Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA), and the Department of Business Information and Analytics for Denver University. As a result of her community and professional leadership, Kristin was honored as one of Government Technology's Top 25 Doers, Dreamers & Drivers for 2013, selected as the Denver Business Journal's 2013 Public/Non-Profit CIO of the Year, awarded Top 10 Breakaway Leader by Global CIO Executive Summit, and named one of Computerworld's 2012 Premier 100 IT Leaders. She is also a recipient of the Denver Business Journal's Forty Under 40 award, the 2009 Silicon Valley Tribute to Women in Industry (TWIN) award, and a finalist for the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce 2011 Athena Award. Kristin lives in Denver with her husband Scott and their two daughters.
