The California Labor & Workforce Development Agency was created in 2002, and is the first cabinet-level agency to coordinate workforce programs. The Agency oversees seven major departments, boards and panels that serve California workers and businesses by improving access to employment and training programs, enforcing California labor laws to protect workers and create an even playing field for employers, and administering benefits that include workers` compensation, unemployment insurance, disability insurance and paid family leave. The history of Arkansas began millennia ago when humans first crossed into North America. Many tribes used Arkansas as their hunting lands but the main tribe was the Quapaw who settled in Arkansas River delta upon moving south from Illinois. Early French explorers gave the territory its name, a corruption of Akansea, which is a phonetic spelling of the Illinois word for the Quapaw.[1] This phonetic heritage explains why "Arkansas" is pronounced so differently than "Kansas" even though they share the same spelling.[2] What began as a rough wilderness inhabited by trappers and hunters became incorporated into the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and became Arkansas Territory in 1819. Upon gaining statehood in 1836, Arkansas had begun to prosper under a plantation economy that was heavily reliant on slave labor. After the Civil War Arkansas was a poor rural state based on cotton. Prosperity returned in the 1940s. The state became famous for its political leadership, including President Bill Clinton (Governor, 1979−81 and 1983−92), and as the base for the Walmart corporation.
The Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is committed to providing quality centralized services, specialized support and innovative solutions to state agencies, boards and commissions as well as local governments and state universities. DAS colleagues from more than 40 program areas work together to serve Ohio government customers, who in turn directly serve the interests of Ohio citizens. Our colleagues procure goods and services, develop and implement information technology solutions, recruit and train personnel, promote equal access to the state workforce, lease and manage office space, process payroll, print and deliver mail to state agencies, print publications and perform a variety of other services.
The Executive Office is responsible for overall policy, planning and general administration designed to: 1. Enhance the financial integrity and soundness of Treasury operations, 2. Provide direction and leadership in carrying out Treasury functions and 3. Foster economic well-being of the state and its citizens and businesses within the confines of fiduciary standards. The Office oversees the Treasury`s corporate governance program, which was developed in accordance with its fiduciary duty to prudently manage the State`s pension assets. The Office is active in promoting environmental, social and governance best practices among the companies that comprise the public equity portfolio of the Connecticut Retirement Plans and Trust Funds ("CRPTF"). The Office also promotes financial education, serving as a catalyst and advocate for financial literacy for residents across the state. Other specific activities include legislative affairs, public information, responsible investment relations, management services, legal services, compliance, and community outreach. The main objective of the Executive Office is to ensure that the Treasury adheres to the highest order of public values, fiscal prudence and ethics in the conduct of the people`s business.
