Chief Human Resources Officer

Reporting to the Executive Dean for Administration; the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) will provide leadership in all areas of human resources; excluding benefits; for Harvard Medical School. This person will be responsible for developing and implementing the human resources strategy for driving organizational and cultural change and for managing the delivery of HR services to all employees. This individual will be a key member of the senior team and will work collaboratively with the other team members regarding strategic and operational human capital mandates. As the Medical School s human resources leader; this individual will assess the organization s culture; leadership; HR practices and systems; and then recommend and implement changes that will enhance the School s ability to attract; retain; and develop an exceptional; diverse workforce. This person will lead the Medical School in all areas of human resources; including recruitment and retention; diversity and inclusion; organization planning; workforce planning and analysis; management development; compensation; employee relations; succession planning; training; and legal compliance. She/he will work in a leadership role and in partnership with others to inculcate the culture with the understanding that diversity and inclusion are integral to the School s aspirations for excellence. Will engage the HMS community in management development training and similar programming to address unconscious bias in hiring and retention practices and create a more inclusive environment and culture. The CHRO will also work collaboratively with the University s Vice President for Human Resources to ensure alignment with and implementation of broader university goals and initiatives. The CHRO has an HR team of approximately 30 staff with 4 direct reports.

The selected candidate will be a member of the University s human resources leadership team comprised of the top human resources professionals in each of the University s schools and the functional heads from Harvard University s central human resources (e.g. compensation; benefits; training; and organizational development; etc.). The successful candidate will also participate in a small advisory group for the central office comprised of the human resources leaders of the University s larger schools; such as the business school and school of arts and sciences. This smaller group will play an instrumental role in determining the agenda of the larger leadership group. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Senior Director of Human Resources at the T. H. Chan School of Public Health in implementing shared services for the Harvard Longwood Campus including organizational development; learning and development programs; work life Integration and will identify further opportunities for strategic collaboration and shared services.
