The University of South Carolina is home to more than 200 years of history and tradition, rising from a single building in 1805 on what would become the heart of the campus, the Horseshoe. The 11 buildings that now make up the Horseshoe frame a lush lawn that is an irresistible gathering place. The university is expanding west toward the Congaree River in support of its research initiatives in nanotechnology, health sciences, Future Fuels™, the environment and information and knowledge technologies. Three separate sites, each specializing in its own research area, will comprise this new innovation district, called Innovista. It will initially cover 500,000 square feet spread over about six city blocks but is projected to grow to five million square feet, mixing University and private research buildings, parking garages, and commercial and residential units around a public plaza called Foundation Square. By creating space for residences, retail, restaurants, and recreation that will complement the research, Innovista will be a place to live, learn, and work. Joining the flagship campus in Columbia, are four-year campuses in Aiken, Beaufort and Upstate (Spartanburg-Greenville). Four two-year campuses—Lancaster, Sumter, Salkehatchie (Allendale and Walterboro) and Union—help the university cover the state.
Founded as Collège du Sacré-Coeur in 1913, it was the first, and for many years the only, institution of higher learning in Northern Ontario. In 1957, it changed its name and began to exercise its full teaching and degree-granting powers. It entered into the Laurentian Federation as a founding member in 1960. The University of Sudbury is a bilingual university based in the tradition of its founding Jesuit Fathers, and committed to promoting the traditions and culture of the First Nations. Inspired by the Jesuit philosophy of education (the formation of the whole person in service to community), the University of Sudbury also has a special commitment to community engagement and service to others. The University of Sudbury`s mission consists of four commitments: to promote the search for truth and meaning, ecumenical and inter-faith relations, bilingualism and a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal culture and traditions. The University offers courses in Philosophy, Indigenous Studies, Religious Studies, Folklore and Études journalistiques – all of which are accredited towards a Laurentian University degree. The Library`s holdings and services support each of those programs. The Lucien Matte Residence is a "home away from home" for a community of 180 students. The Director of Spiritual Services organizes activities and fosters a stimulating environment for personal growth through community engagement in an ecumenical and inter-faith setting. Native elders also enhance the university experience of students by providing support services from an Aboriginal perspective. The University`s chapel is home to the St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, a community of the Diocese of Sault-Ste-Marie, and also serves as a place for ecumenical and multi-faith worship and meditation.
Santa Barbara City College is a comprehensive community college serving the south coast of Santa Barbara County. Established in 1909, SBCC is renowned as one of the leading two-year community college in California - and the nation. The college has a wide range of associate degree and certificate programs, as well as transfer programs that provide the first two years of study toward the baccalaureate degree. Students are attracted to SBCC by virtue of its outstanding faculty, small classes, state-of-the-art facilities and numerous student services.
Garden City Community College is officially accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org, (800) 621-7440. In addition, the GCCC Practical Nursing Program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing, and the Associate Degree Program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Certain GCCC programs have also obtained other specific individual accreditation. GCCC has been accepted for the continuous quality improvement accreditation model by the national Academic Quality Improvement Project.
