When we created Urban Plates, our goal was simple: To use the best ingredients possible to create wholesome, delicious food that`s prepared before our guests` eyes just the way they want it. Our hope is that by making real food prepared by real chefs accessible to everyone in a convenient, comfortable setting we can empower anyone interested in making better food choices to be a bit healthier, happier and hopeful about the future. We`re based in San Diego, CA and found throughout the San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles areas, with additional locations in Northern California and Washington D.C.

WE DO DIPS AND DESSERTS! This is a slogan we have used for several years and it does a good job of describing our business. To make the description totally accurate, we would have to add "...AND WE DO THEM VERY WELL!" We continue to make traditional favorites like sour cream, French onion and spinach dips, and gelatins in many flavors, shapes, and sizes. But, we are constantly looking for new products to appeal to new customers in new markets. So, while we hope you will continue to buy our strawberry swirl ring-molds, we want you to also try our layered fiesta dips, our cheesecakes, and our mousses. The Hispanic market continues to grow at a rapid pace and we continue to grow with it. Our "Luisa`s" brand has been a significant part of our company for many years. Now, we also sell under the brand names "Margarita`s", "Senor Rico", "Angelica`s", and "Hispania". The range of products also continues to grow with the addition of several flavors and types of flan, tres leches, and a wide assortment of Hispanic gelatin products. Our products can be found throughout the country as we service our customers from manufacturing facilities in Ohio, Wisconsin, and California. This geographic flexibility allows us to provide fresher products faster. We serve the refrigerated departments of the supermarkets along with food service, convenience stores, and warehouse clubs. We are proud that our creative product development, innovative packaging, and modern technology have allowed us to satisfy some of the world`s finest retailers. We have come a long way since that day in 1988 when we started with one customer and just a few employees. In 1855, New Orleans own Christopher Henry Miller turned his pastry chef experience into the Miller Candy Corporation. His son-in-law, Augustus Elmer, eventually joined him. And around the turn of the century, the company’s name was changed to Elmer-Miller. In 1914, Elmer’s sons signed on to what is now known as Elmer Candy Corporation. Elmer Candy soon increased its national presence by adding a wide variety of confections and snacks—some of which are still favorites today: Heavenly Hash Eggs (1923) and Gold Brick® Eggs (1936). In the early 1960s, Roy Nelson became a partner in the enterprise. In 1963, he purchased the entire company from the Elmer family and encouraged his son Allan to join the endeavor. Elmer Chocolate, now run by the third generation of Nelsons, is the second largest heart box manufacturer in the country. Easter favorites Gold Brick®, Heavenly Hash and Pecan Eggs outsell national leaders five to one along the Gulf Coast. And the Elmer Chocolate name continues to create sweet memories for new generations of candy lovers.
