Vancouver, BC-based Mantra Venture Group has Promoted Sona Kazemi as Chief Technology Officer
Mantra Venture Group is a clean tech incubator focused on developing and launching products that address sustainability issues primarily relating to carbon management through carbon recycling and energy efficiency through our LED lighting systems. Mantra Energy Alternatives, a subsidiary of Mantra Venture Group, is developing the Electro Reduction of Carbon Dioxide (ERC) which provides an alternate option to Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS), whereby we re-process CO2 into a high value chemical fuels such as formic acid/formate salts that is a precursor chemical to many other industry applications including: Fuel cell feedstock, Steel pickling, Plastics, Building materials, Animal feed, Leather treatment, Textiles, Rubber, Pulp & paper, Pharmaceuticals, Transportation: organic de-icer Mantra Energy Alternatives provides a solution to industrial emitters of CO2 and provides them with an additional revenue stream based on their CO2 emissions, with an estimated ROI of 10-15%, rather than a cost to capture and sequester, such as with CCS. Further to recycling and processing CO2, Mantra NextGen Power owns the patent rights to a ground-breaking fuel cell that uses formic acid as its feedstock. ERC and fuel cells can be connected in closed loop system on industrial emissions sites to add even further efficiency to the base industrial processes, whether it be cement production, coal power production, steel production or petroleum refineries
Sona Kazemi has been a Senior Electrochemical Engineer at Mantra since October of 2013. Her promotion to the position of CTO is a direct result of her significant technical contributions to Mantra`s technologies and her demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and direct the research teams. Before completing her Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Sona Kazemi received both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Iran. Her research work has included fuel cell design, development, and operation, MEA and catalyst layer preparation and characterization, electro-analytical characterization, and bio-fuel cell design and development for electricity generation from wastewater. Sona has worked extensively on microbial fuel cells, and is especially capable in the realm of electrochemical system modeling and simulation.
