About the Person
Shyam Desigan is the chief financial officer and senior vice president, information technology for the American Academy of Physician Assistants, responsible for financial and technology management. Prior to joining AAPA, Mr. Desigan directed Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s corporate and project finance operations for the non-profit’s 26 human service programs throughout the mid-Atlantic. During his time with the Volunteers of America Chesapeake executive team, Mr. Desigan was recognized nationally for executing a turnaround, leveraging analytics, robust reporting, strong internal controls and risk management. Prior to joining Volunteers of America Chesapeake, Mr. Desigan co-founded two startup health IT ventures and successfully directed the development of an acute care community hospital. He has focused on enabling healthcare providers and using outcomes-based benchmarking for nonprofits to build a sustainable competitive advantage. Mr. Desigan earned an MBA in finance from the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. In addition, he holds an MS in international business and a BS in electronics engineering.
