About the Person

Scott Smith has over 15 years experience in educational technology. As a teacher, technology facilitator, systems engineer, director, and chief technology officer, he understands all aspects of technology, both instructionally and technically. As past president of NCTIES, North Carolina’s affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education, Smith led efforts for the state’s technology educators. He also serves as an ISTE affiliate representative for NCTIES. In addition, he sits on the board of directors of the North Carolina Association of School Administrators. In 2008, Smith assumed the role of chief technology officer for the Mooresville Graded School District, one of the only public school systems in the nation to issue laptops to every student in grades 4-12. That “digital conversion” initiative has seen outstanding results in the form of decreased dropouts and suspensions, increased attendance, and increased scores on end-of-course and end-of-grade tests, while moving the district into a digital teaching and learning environment.
