About the Person

Sanjay Sardar serves as the Chief Information Officer of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He has responsibility providing strategic direction for and managing the implementation of information technology at the FERC. Sanjay joined the FERC in 2008, prior to which he was a Sr. Manager at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) with P&L and oversight responsibility for technology efforts at several major government agencies. He has managed efforts at Department of Education, US Capitol Police, US Senate, Department of Energy and Dept. of Transportation. Prior to joining the Federal government, Mr. Sardar spent over 16 years in private industry focusing on management and information consulting to technology providers, multi-national pharmaceuticals, telecom companies, financial institutions and state/local governments. Mr. Sardar has had both operational and sales responsibilities in the organizations he has been a part of. Mr. Sardar has extensive training in Information Management, Systems/Enterprise Architecture and Custom Software Development. He has held technology management positions at both large companies as well as several smaller internet start-ups. While working with companies like such as General Dynamics, Oracle and Computer Associates, Mr. Sardar served in leadership roles that helped drive revenue growth for his business units. Mr. Sardar further refined his experience in developing and implementing organizational strategy, market positioning and brand management by working with several venture capital firms and incubators to bring concepts to market. Additionally, Mr. Sardar currently serves as the Chair of the Small-Agency CIO council, made up of over 80 smaller Federal agencies. He helps drive policy and practice that works in line with the visions and capabilities of the Small Agencies. His goals for this council include increased shared knowledge, combined purchasing and efficient practices amongst the government. Mr. Sardar holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration, with concentration in Finance and Strategy, from the George Washington University. Mr. Sardar has worked in the United States, Canada, and several European countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Spain.
