Robert Smiley is Chief Information Officer for the School District of Janesville, and has worked in the field of Educational Technology since 1991. After completing two years with the US Peace Corps (Caribbean), he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Ball State University (Indiana), and a Doctorate from UW-Madison (Wisconsin). His professional work focuses on leadership, guidance, and support of K-12 public school systems, with a goal to provide rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning opportunities for all students – with a concentrated effort on educational technology as it pertains to both information literacy and access. Dr. Smiley was recognized in 2010 by WLA/WEMTA for his work with literacy and access when he received the Intellectual Freedom Award. In 2006, he was recognized by WEMTA for his leadership and advocacy work as Professional of the Year. He is a visionary educational technology leader with a passion for the transformational power of information
