About the Company
Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit community behavioral healthcare organization, which was originally founded in Sarasota as Storefront Centers for Counseling more than 40 years ago. Since that time, Coastal has grown to over 200 employees who serve more than 6,000 individuals in Sarasota, DeSoto, Charlotte, Lee, and Manatee counties each year. At the heart of Coastal Behavioral Healthcare’s mission is an earnest passion for “caring for our community” through the implementation of best practices that assist individuals in gaining the tools they need to overcome the challenges of mental health and substance abuse disorders. Coastal Behavioral Healthcare is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families and accredited by The Joint Commission.
About the Person
Rick Ver Helst is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with 25 years of experience in the behavioral healthcare field and its interface with information technology in the community mental health system. Prior to joining Coastal Behavioral Healthcare in January 2012, Dr. Ver Helst served as Senior Consultant to a leading certified Electronic Health Record software provider, where he worked with large behavioral healthcare agencies across the country. His primary focus in the coming year is to use information technology and innovation in operations to increase corporate efficiency, foster collaboration and integration of care with community providers, and prepare the organization for Medicaid expansion and increased managed care insurance coverage. Ms. Buss received her Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. She has 20 years of experience in the behavioral healthcare industry, including direct service, supervision, regional program administration, and serving as an Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Medicaid auditor. Prior to her appointment as Vice President of Clinical Operations, Ms. Buss served as the Director of Coastal Behavioral Healthcare’s North Port outpatient facility. One of her primary objectives in the coming year is to improve efficiencies in the organization’s service delivery system to best meet the needs of the community served by Coastal Behavioral Healthcare.
