As Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Global Head Quintiles Technology Solutions, Richard is responsible for all aspects of technology with clients around the world, as well as internally across Quintiles business. With an extensive portfolio of innovative solutions, he leads the company’s global technology organization and is based at Quintiles’ global headquarters in Durham, North Carolina, USA. A 25 year veteran of the technology industry, Richard joined The company in 2005 and has played a key role building Quintiles’ technology group into the multiple award winning organization it is today. The group provides technology solutions for Quintiles clients, and has received numerous accolades for innovation including the #1 business technology innovator across the pharmaceutical industry 2011 and 2012 in the prestigious InformationWeek 500 rankings, and the Society for Clinical research (SCRIP) award for the best clinical development technology in 2013. The group has also been recognized repeatedly as a one of the 'Best 100 Places to Work in IT'. Before joining Quintiles, Richard held increasingly senior leadership positions across a variety of industries including consulting, technology, marketing information, financial services and aerospace/defense. Most recently he served as Executive Vice President and CIO for Telephia, Inc. in San Francisco, a startup which became the world leader in digital consumer marketing information and benchmarking. Richard holds an honors degree in Computer Science from the University of Glamorgan in the United Kingdom, and a New Zealand pilots license. He also serves on several boards and company committees.
