About the Person
Richard Scott Schaefer is no longer Vice President, Chief Technical Officer of Hutchinson Technology Inc., effective June 7, 2014. He is responsible for the overall technical direction of the company, as well as technology development and customer program development for the Disk Drive Components Division, which includes design, development, prototype manufacturing and pre-production of new products. Schaefer joined the company in 1979 as a design engineer and has held various technical and management positions involving manufacturing, product development and new business development. He became the company’s Engineering Director in 1985 and was appointed to Vice President in 1990. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toledo. He is the past Chairman of the Executive Board of the Information Storage Industry Consortium (INSIC).
