Marked by more than a century of tradition since its founding by Booker T. Washington in 1881, Tuskegee University is known not only for being among the nation`s premier historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), but for its openness to all. An independent and state-related institution of higher education, TU is Alabama`s only private land-grant university. Its programs serve a student body numbering more than 3,000 students that is coeducational as well as racially, ethnically and religiously diverse. With a strong orientation toward disciplines that highlight the relationship between education and workforce preparation in the sciences, professions and technical areas, Tuskegee University also emphasizes the importance of the liberal arts as a foundation for successful careers in all areas. Academic instruction occurs in five colleges and three schools: the Andrew F. Appleby College is an independent school for 750 young men and women in Grades 7 to 12 located in Oakville, Ontario. Founded in 1911, Appleby offers an outstanding education to both boarding and day students. The e.school@appleby program integrates information technology into the curriculum at every grade level.
