Los Angeles, CA-based University of Southern California has Appointed Peter M. Siegel as Chief Information Officer
The University of Southern California is one of the world`s leading private research universities. An anchor institution in Los Angeles, a global center for arts, technology and international trade, USC enrolls more international students than any other U.S. university and offers extensive opportunities for internships and study abroad. With a strong tradition of integrating liberal and professional education, USC fosters a vibrant culture of public service and encourages students to cross academic as well as geographic boundaries in their pursuit of knowledge.
Peter M. Siegel is the chief information officer and vice provost for information and educational technology at the University of California, Davis, with primary responsibilities for research, academic and administrative computing.
As vice provost and CIO, Siegel is responsible for providing the leadership necessary to assure the effective coordination, oversight, and strategic deployment of information and educational technologies to the campus's academic and administrative operations. He also is responsible for coordinating technology between the Davis campus and the UC Davis Health System. To meet these goals, Vice Provost Siegel works very closely with several advisory groups and the community at large - all key components of the campus IT governance structure.
Prior to joining UC Davis in 2006, Siegel held leadership positions at other institutions, including the Universities of Illinois (as CIO) and Iowa State (as Director of Academic Computing), as well as 23 years at Cornell University in increasingly complex roles, including Director of the Cornell National Supercomputer Facility (an NSF National Center) and Executive Director of the Cornell Center for Theory and Simulation in Science and Engineering; Siegel was a founding member of the Center under Nobel Laureate Kenneth G. Wilson.
