About the Person
Patty Smejkal is chief technology officer with HomeServices of America, Inc. In addition to providing strategic direction to the company and its 30 real estate brokerage affiliates, Smejkal oversees several large scale projects which involve centralization of IT services such as hosting email and company Web sites. She has weekly contact with IT leaders at the various HomeServices operating companies and is often involved in bringing cost-saving opportunities to the forefront. Smejkal joined HomeServices in July of 2007 after transferring from MidAmerican Energy Company, an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. She spent the previous 11 years with Wells Fargo and served as vice president within the company`s IT division, supporting multiple business lines such Mortgage, Retail, Credit Card and Internet Banking nationwide. Smejkal also provided leadership to a variety of departments in her tenure at Wells Fargo including project management teams, implementation teams, technical support teams, and quality assurance. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Smejkal obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds a Master of Arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin.
