These diverse activities and more are the responsibility of the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI). The mission of the Office of Inspector General (OIG) is to provide independent oversight and promote excellence, integrity, and accountability within the programs, operations, and management of the U.S. Department of the Interior. We are a highly motivated organization of about 265 employees conducting independent oversight and responding in the best interest of American taxpayers to ensure that DOI earns the public`s trust. We are alert to waste, fraud, and mismanagement, whether expressed as administrative waste or criminal activity, and we use a range of audit and investigative tools to ensure that the Secretary of the Interior, Congress, and the public are informed when changes to DOI programs become necessary to achieve this goal.
The Boone County Democratic Central Committee represents the Missouri Democratic Party in Boone County and performs such functions required by the laws of the State of Missouri, the Charter and By-Laws of the Democratic Party of the United States, and the Constitution and By-Laws of the Missouri Democratic Party. The objective of the Central Committee is to encourage among all voters and citizens of Boone County, Missouri an active interest in governmental affairs; to increase the efficiency of popular government; to foster and perpetuate the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party; to encourage and develop leadership in the Democratic Party; to encourage party responsibility; and to maintain and promote harmony in the Democratic Party rank and file. The Central Committee promotes the interest of the Democratic Party and its candidates over those of the opposing candidates and political parties. Office of Personnel Management`s history begins with the Civil Service Act, signed in 1883, ending the spoils system and establishing the Civil Service Commission. The Commission, led by the energetic Teddy Roosevelt, laid the foundations of an impartial, professional civil service based on the merit principle – that employees should be judged only on how well they can do the job. In 1978, the Civil Service Commission was reorganized into three new organizations: the Office of Personnel Management, the Merit Systems Protection Board, and the Federal Labor Relations Authority. Each of these new organizations took over a portion of the Civil Service Commission’s responsibilities, with OPM responsible for personnel management of the civil service of the Government.
