The New Jersey State Board of Education has 13 members who are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the New Jersey State Senate. These members serve without compensation for six-year terms. By law, at least three members of the State Board must be women, and no two members may be appointed from the same county. The Commissioner of Education serves as both the secretary and as its official agent for all purposes. The State Board also has a nonvoting student representative selected annually by the New Jersey Association of Student Councils. The State Board adopts the administrative code, which sets the rules needed to implement state education law. Such rules cover the supervision and governance of the state`s 2,500 public schools, which serve 1.38 million students. In addition, the State Board advises on educational policies proposed by the Commissioner and confirms Department of Education staff appointments made by the Commissioner. The State Board conducts public meetings in Trenton on the first Wednesday of each month. The State Board Office publishes an agenda in advance of each meeting to notify the public of the items that the State Board will be considering. The public is invited to participate by providing comments on proposed rules either at a public testimony session or by submitting written comments on proposed rules. Proposed rules for education in the state are also published in the New Jersey Register. Written comments on proposed rules are accepted 30 to 60 days following publication in the Register and may be sent to the State Board office at the Department of Education.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, often referred to as the MBTA or simply The T, is the public operator of most bus, subway, commuter rail and ferry systems in the greater Boston, Massachusetts, area. The MBTA is the largest transit provider in New England, and the fifth largest in the country. The MBTA directly operates or contracts out for service using eight different modes: heavy rail, light rail, bus rapid transit, local/express bus, trackless trolley, commuter rail, commuter boat, and paratransit. In Boston, 55% of all work trips and 42% of all trips into downtown are made by transit. The MBTA district is made up of 175 communities with a total population of 4.7 million. Almost three-quarters of all Massachusetts residents live within the MBTA service area.

We are a prison and jail reform advocacy group headquartered in Washington, DC with chapters or affiliates in most states of the union. Deadman Talkin` - Deadman Talkin` is a serie of columns, written by Dean Carter who is currently on death row, in San Quentin Prison. Death Penalty Group - December 19, 2005 - I just started a web site that is going to be geared towards educating people on both sides of the death penalty argument regarding what life is like behind bars for condemned prisoners. I have a team of volunteers who are going to write to death row inmates around the US and ask them to participate by sending us letters that they would like us to post on the blog. It will hopefully be a simple record straight from their own mouths on what day-to-day life is like on death row. Even if the men and women on death row we write to do not want to contribute, we would like to stay their pen pals as so few of them have anyone to really communicate with. My hope is that one day I will have a non-profit organization that will be successfully educating people about the human side of death row, not the scientific, statistical side.
