Albuquerque, NM-based Optomec has Promoted Mike Renn as Chief Technology Officer
Optomec provides additive manufacturing solutions for high-performance applications in the electronics, solar, medical, and aerospace and defense markets. It offers aerosol jet lab systems that are suited to develop processes and devices for photovoltaic, touch screen displays, 3D interconnects, and other printed electronics and biologics applications; aerosol jet print engine, which is suited for integration into industrial automation platforms for high performance material deposition applications; and LENS 3D printers that are suited to fabricate, enhance, and repair high performance metal components, which are used in aerospace, defense, power generation, and medical device manufacturing industries. Optomec, Inc. was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Mike Renn joined Optomec in 1999 and was the Principal Investigator on the DARPA MICE (Mesocopic Integrated Conformal Electronics) project that launched the Aerosol Jet technology. In addition to his management duties, Dr. Renn continues to spearhead technology and application breakthroughs as a senior research scientist. He holds a B.A. degree from Lawrence University in physics and mathematics and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in physics. Dr. Renn was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Colorado's JILA institute and a faculty member at Michigan Technological University. Dr. Renn jointly holds more than 20 issued patents related to Aerosol Jet. He has published more than 25 journal articles.
