About the Person

Mike Vennera is senior vice president and chief information officer at Independence Blue Cross. In this role, he oversees the information services division and is responsible for developing and executing a business technology strategy for growth. Vennera brings a rare blend of expertise in strategic planning and deep understanding of IT innovation to his CIO role. He previously served as vice president of strategy and innovation, where he led efforts to develop IBC 2016, a four-year strategy for Independence Blue Cross and its subsidiaries. He also oversaw IBC’s innovation efforts, including the rollout of the innovation culture and capabilities program and the creation of the Independence Blue Cross Center for Health Care Innovation. Vennera has been with Independence Blue Cross for more than 15 years. He has held a number of roles in various areas, including informatics, information systems and operations. He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in information systems.
