About the Company
The Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB) is a public utility established in 1950, dedicated to providing high-quality drinking water to Birmingham, Alabama, and surrounding areas. Serving over 770,000 people across Birmingham and five counties, it is the largest water system in Alabama. The BWWB focuses on delivering reliable and affordable water service while promoting efficient operations and community engagement. The utility operates four filter plants and multiple pump stations, sourcing water primarily from the Warrior and Cahaba River basins. It manages the distribution of approximately 100 million gallons of water daily through nearly 3,858 miles of main pipes. The BWWB also undertakes water treatment and infrastructure maintenance, with initiatives aimed at replacing aging pipes to reduce water loss. The utility is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, which sets strategic direction and oversees daily operations through a General Manager.
