About the Person
Mathew DeZee, Currently Matt is the Senior Director for the Strategic Relations Operation (SRO) for Cisco's US Public Sector Theater. Prior to the SRO, Matt directed the strategy, plans and operations for US Public Sector. He was originally hired at Cisco to help lead Cisco's Global Public Sector, Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG) where he was responsible for overseeing IBSG Public Sector engagements in North America. From 1990 to 1997 Dr. DeZee was the President and CEO of the Scientific and Technical Analysis Corporation (STAC), a software development and systems engineering company in Northern Virginia. After the sale of STAC, he was appointed the President of the Tibbits Group in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Prior to its sale, Tibbits Group was a software asset management and license negotiation consulting firm that serviced Fortune 1000 companies. Matt returned to government service in 1999 when he was asked to come back to the Central Intelligence Agency where he previously served as an Intelligence Analysts. In his new role at CIA as an SES-4 level office director, he assumed responsibilities for the global computing and communications infrastructure and led the restructuring of the office and the creation of the current CIO structure. One of his accomplishments was establishing the CIA University that provided distance training to stations and bases world wide. Dr. DeZee left CIA to become the first Chief Information Officer for the State of South Carolina. While in that role, his primary responsibilities centered on implementing a statewide IT enterprise architecture framework that fused IT strategic direction with the business strategies of State government. In 2002 he was selected by the Special Assistant to the President for Cyber Security to represent the 50 States in designing the White House National Strategy for Securing Cyber Space. During his tenure as CIO, he served as the director of the Security and Assurance Committee for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers and developed the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to send cyber alerts directly to State CIOs. Immediately prior to joining Cisco, Matt was a Vice President in the Digital Government Group at American Management Systems responsible for providing thought leadership and strategy consulting to senior-level government officials transitioning to an integrated digital enterprise. Matt holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and a Masters degree in Criminology from Florida State University. He did his undergraduate work at Utica College of Syracuse University. Matt has published in refereed journals in criminology and political science and is a member of the Board of Advisors for the Economic Crime Institute and is the Vice Chair of the Advisory Board for the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice at FSU. He's had faculty appointments at Florida State University, Illinois State University and has been an adjunct at the University of Maryland University College. He is a 4 year Army veteran achieving the rank of Captain and served with the elite Army Rangers (N Company Rangers) in Southeast Asia in 1968 – 1969 where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, two Bronze Stars and an Air Medal for Valor.
