In his role as Chief Technology Officer, Marv White is charged with keeping the Company’s technology offerings at the forefront of sports broadcasting and digital media innovations. HIs responsibilities include overseeing all of the company’s technology functions and service delivery, including research and development, testing, data collection, broadcast engineering, manufacturing and the company’s vast intellectual property portfolio. This is Marv’s second stint as CTO of Sportvision, having been on the original executives at the founding of the company in 1998 and having previously served as CTO of Sportvision from 2004-2009. During his prior twelve-year tenure at Sportvision, Marv was integral to the development of many of Sportvision’s iconic innovations, including 1st & Ten, PITCHf/x, K-Zone, RACEf/x and other technologies. At ESPN, Marv was Distinguished Engineer, charged with finding new technologies that are important for ESPN and to help make those technologies useful to ESPN. He collaborated with university research groups, including Disney Research in Zurich and Pittsburgh, on topics relating to video and broadcast including light fields, Free Viewpoint Video, and Augmented Reality. Prior to Sportvision’s inception, Marv was General Manager at Etak, the pioneer company in automobile navigation, Marv led digital mapping of the street network in the U.S. He also led commercial business applications of maps and navigation. Marv began his technology career as Principal Researcher in applied mathematics at the U.S. Census Bureau, where he led the development of interactive digital mapping needed for the large Census data collection operations. Marv graduated from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana with a Bachelor’s in physics. He also completed graduate work in physics from U.C.L.A.
