Phoenix, AZ-based Arizona Department of Education Resigned Mark Masterson as Chief Information Officer
The Arizona Department of Education and its chief position, a publicly elected state Superintendent of Public Instruction, were created upon the ratification of the Arizona Constitution. The job of the state superintendent is to administer the K-12 public education system in Arizona through the state department of education. As stated in the state constitution, this involves providing for the students of Arizona a uniform public school system including kindergarten, elementary schools, middle and high schools.
Mark Masterson is CIO for the Arizona Department of Education where he oversees a $24M internal budget that impacts more than one million students and 60,000 teachers in 2,200 public schools in Arizona. In 2011, the superintendent of public instruction selected Masterson to completely reengineer information technology functions and redesign the statewide education data system. Masterson is a strategic thinker who has developed and implemented IT organizational and business solutions that resulted in greater return on investment, reduced costs, improved efficiency and higher quality. He has proven to be a motivational, hands-on leader who has successfully managed large globally dispersed and culturally diverse teams. He has the ability to drive transformation and continuous improvement within these teams. Masterson’s comprehensive information technology portfolio includes extensive experience in data center build out, infrastructure utilization and large-scale network and operations excellence. He is known for driving high availability and sustainability while exceeding customer expectations.
