About the Person

Kirby is Senior Vice President Management Services of Uptime Institute Professional Services, providing thought leadership, strategic marketing, facilitating prospective engagements and delivering operations support to contracted clients. Additionally, Mr. Kirby serves as a spokesperson and evangelist for various initiatives that are focused on solving systemic issues in the industry. Additional responsibilities include working with clients to develop a scope of work responsive to current requirements, formally packaging the scope of work in a proposal or RFP/ RFQ response, and negotiating terms of the contract. During the course of a consulting engagement, he coordinates consultant resources and provides logistical support for on-site delivery. During the report generation stage, he delivers professional-level editing of the deliverable and QA/QC of the final report. Mr. Kirby joined Uptime Institute Professional Services in 2013, following more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of information systems, strategic business development, finance, planning, human resources and administration both in the private and public sectors. Mr. Kirby has been a trusted advisor and consultant for various organizations in the data center sector and provided interim leadership to emerging and transforming technology companies. He has successfully led several technology startups and turn-arounds as well as built and run world-class global operations. His core competency is strategic and operations management focused on aligning infrastructure and IT organizations to produce optimal business value for the stakeholders. Prior to joining Uptime Institute, Mr. Kirby founded Salute Inc. to immerse veterans and help them gain experience and skills so that Salute becomes a gateway to the data center industry and the first step in a career for the veterans. In addition to an MBA from University of Washington and further studies at Henley School of Business in London and Stanford University, Lee holds professional certifications in management and security (ITIL v3 Expert, Lean Six Sigma, CCO). Articles written by Mr. Kirby have appeared in several industry publications, including Mission Critical Magazine, Data Center Management, Processor Magazine Network World and BusinessWeek. In addition to his many years as a successful technology industry leader, he has masterfully balanced a successful military career over 36 years (Ret. Colonel) and continues to serve as an advisor to many veteran support organizations.
