Durham, NC-based North Carolina Central University has Appointed Leah Kraus as Chief Information Officer
Founded in 1910 and located in Durham, N.C., North Carolina Central University was the nation`s first publicly supported liberal arts college for African-Americans, and it is one of 17 institutions in the University of North Carolina system. With a student population of more than 8,400, NCCU is a comprehensive university offering baccalaureate, master`s, doctoral and professional degree programs. Today, liberal arts remain a signature program at NCCU, joined by five additional areas of academic emphasis: Education, Nursing, Biosciences, Business and Law. Capitalizing on its location in the heart of North Carolina`s Research Triangle, the university is home to two bioscience research institutes. In keeping with its motto of “Truth and Service,” NCCU in 1995 became the first institution in the UNC System to require community service of all students. North Carolina Central University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate, masters, doctoral and professional degrees.
Leah Kraus comes to NCCU with more than 20 years of experience in education and technology, according to NCCU. She has served as UNC-Wilmington’s interim CIO since 2011 and as associate vice chancellor for services for the past seven years. Prior to serving at UNC-Wilmington, Kraus worked at Guilford College, where she was chief information officer and director of user services. At Guilford College, she introduced the Moodle open-source learning management system, led student digital portfolio initiatives and directed a network upgrade. Kraus began her career with Guilford County Schools. She earned a bachelor of science in office systems administration and a master of education, supervision and instructional technology from UNC-Greensboro.
