About the Person

In his role as senior vice president and chief information officer for Sharp HealthCare, Ken Lawonn is responsible for leading efforts to maintain and further Sharp's implementation of advanced technologies to support the transformation of health care. With more than 30 years of experience in health care technology leadership, Lawonn joined the Sharp team in February 2014. Prior to joining Sharp, Lawonn served as the senior vice president for strategy and technology at Alegent Creighton Health in Omaha, Neb. Under his leadership, Alegent was recognized as a leader in the deployment of technology to support integrated clinical care. He is responsible for the information management, marketing and communications, telecommunications, construction, facility operations, planning, security and biomedical functions throughout the enterprise. Lawonn has nurtured Alegent Creighton Health’s relationship with Siemens Strategic Alliance, negotiating a 10-year agreement for medical, building and information technology. He has successfully completed a Strategic Systems Plan, calling for implementation of advanced clinical systems. Prior to joining Alegent Creighton Health, Lawonn served for one year as the first corporate vice president of information technology for Banner Health System/Lutheran Health Systems, Fargo, North Dakota. Banner Health System was created in 1999 as the result of a merger between Lutheran Health Systems, Fargo, and Samaritan Health Systems, Phoenix, Arizona. Lawonn began his career in healthcare at Lutheran Health Systems and served in a variety of technical and management roles prior to being named vice president and chief information officer in 1992. He served in that role until the merger with Samaritan Health Systems in 1999. Lawonn received his MBA with a focus on Executive Leadership from University of Nebraska and his BS degree in Computer Information Services from Moorhead State University. Lawonn serves on the Board of the Nebraska Heath Information Initiative and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
