Prior to this appointment, Julie Buehler held several executive level positions with The University of Rochester including manager of financial systems operations, project manager for human resources systems replacement; director of IT planning, finance and administration, associate CIO and more recently, deputy CIO. Julie Buehler joined the University of Rochester in 1989 and serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer. In this role, she collaborates with the University community and external parties to advance the University’s mission through information technology strategy, policy, and programs. Julie holds a leading role in developing the financials for the Health Sciences Center for Computational Innovation, a three–way multimillion-dollar partnership between the University, New York State, and IBM. She is the liaison to the President's Office on technology initiatives and oversees University IT finance and administration. Prior to her current role, Julie served as the Associate Chief Information Officer where she fostered collaboration with faculty and staff to deliver a five-year infrastructure plan for the University’s strategic planning effort, led finance and administration for University IT, and worked with a vendor to successfully develop an application for the Board of Trustees that is now in use at the University and several peer institutions. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of leadership roles of growing responsibility spanning information technology, finance, and audit. She successfully led project implementations of the University’s enterprise Human Resource and Time Management systems and managed finance systems operations. Julie is often sought out as a mentor and is enthusiastic in supporting others in their professional development. Julie is a NYS Certified Public Accountant. She earned an M.B.A., with a concentration in Accounting and Information Systems, from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business in 1997. She also earned a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York at Geneseo. Julie participates in several information technology and leadership organizations including the American Council on Education Fellows network, EDUCAUSE, NACUBO, and American Women in Computing. She presents nationally on topics that range from building collaborative relationships to developing strategic responses to financial constraints. Julie was an American Council on Education Fellow in 2010-2011.
