About the Person

Previously, Jonathan Rosenberg, Ph.D. has been the Chief Technology Strategist at Skype Technologies, S.A. since November 2009. Dr. Rosenberg is the Inventor of SIP for presence and is co-creator of SigComp. He was a Cisco Fellow at Cisco Systems, where he directed technology strategy for its enterprise voice product portfolio. Dr. Rosenberg served as Chief Technology Officer of Skype Limited. He left the CISCO in November 2009. Dr. Rosenberg served as the Chief Technology Officer at DynamicSoft Inc. In his former position as a key research scientist with Lucent Technologies Bell Labs' High-Speed Networks Research Department, he led the research and development of Internet telephony services, architectures and protocols.  Dr. Rosenberg serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of Kayote Networks Inc. and Roundbox, Inc. He serves as Member of Advisory Board of Sprinklr Inc. He served as a Member of the Advisory Board of Pingtel Corporation. Additionally, he served on the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) from 2004 to 2006 and is the chair of the IP telephony working group as well as having co-chaired the SIP working group. He is the co-author of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), RFC 3261, and inventor of SIMPLE - SIP for presence and IM. Dr. Rosenberg has also authored numerous protocols such as STUN, TURN, and XCAP. A leader within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), he chairs the IETF's IP Telephony working group and is former co-chair of the SIP working group. Dr. Rosenberg has authored more than 20 patents and publications on topics ranging from Internet telephony and SIP to multimedia conferencing and instant messaging. As a highly sought-after speaker and lecturer, Dr. Rosenberg has presented at the world's premier technology forums, including SUPERCOMM, VON, VON Developers, VON Europe, the SIP Summit and the International SIP conferences in Paris. He has been quoted in national media including The New York Times, Investor's Business Daily and The International Herald Tribune, as well as innumerable industry publications. Dr. Rosenberg is one of the world's most influential visionaries in how converged communications are transforming lives. In October 2005, CRN Magazine named him as one of their "Super Geeks" - 10 engineers who are casting larger-than-life shadows over the industry. TMC Internet Telephony magazine recently named Dr. Rosenberg as one of the Top 100 Voices of IP com. In May 2002, Technology Review Magazine named him as one of the TR100 - the 100 most innovative technologists in the world under the age of 35. He was awarded the Pulver VoN Pioneer award in June of 2000 for his contributions to the VoIP industry. He earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Rosenberg holds a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering with a focus on IP telephony from Columbia University.
