Before becoming corporate development director, Jonathan Mitchell was business process improvement and chief information officer at Rolls Royce, and is another IT leader who earns his place on the list by helping to manage a high-profile UK company. His influence comes from the fact that the manufacturer relies on extremely high standards for its IT, as well as focusing heavily on improving business processes and technology’s role as an enabler. As such, Rolls Royce has an enviously effective IT strategy, with rigorous project management standards and an emphasis on getting the requirements of a project right – not surprising for a business with engineering excellence at its core. Mitchell has achieved what many companies only talk about, which is to use IT as a true enabler instead of as a service.
