San Francisco, CA-based Williams-Sonoma has appointed John Strain as chief information officer.
Williams-Sonoma, Inc. is a high-end American consumer retail company that sells kitchenwares, furniture and linens, as well as other house wares and home furnishings, along with a variety of specialty foods, soaps and lotions. Its international corporate headquarters are in San Francisco, California, United States.
John Strain is the executive vice president and CIO for Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Strain joined Williams-Sonoma, Inc. in 2006 and is responsible for the vision, delivery and operational management for all technology functions. During his tenure with Williams-Sonoma, Inc., he has been focused on delivering technologies to support the corporate vision of enhancing customers’ lives at home. Previously, Strain was vice president of IT for Gap Inc. Direct. In this role, he was responsible for the technology strategy and delivery, including the award-winning re-platform of all the Gap websites. Prior to Gap, he was an executive vice president at Fort Point Partners, an e-commerce strategy and systems integration consultancy, where he worked with premier companies such as J. Crew, Best Buy, Nike, Martha Stewart, Kmart/Bluelight.com and Estee Lauder. Strain began his career at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) where he worked in the San Francisco, Chicago and Tokyo offices. He is a graduate of Santa Clara University with a B.S. degree in finance and was a member of the Retail Management Institute.
