About the Person

John McLendon’s career in IT is extensive. He most recently served as senior vice president and chief information officer at MedStar Health in Columbia, Md. Prior to this role, he served as senior vice president and chief information officer for Adventist Health System for over six years, providing IT services for 31 regional hospitals and more than 1,000 employed positions across nine states, with a staff of 750 associates. He also successfully implemented Cerner’s integrated clinical and financial electronic health record platform across all 31 hospitals, led efforts to form a local health information exchange and established an enterprise data warehouse for business analytics and dashboard reporting. Additionally, all 31 hospitals in his purview achieved meaningful use following the launch of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Care Record Incentive Programs and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) Level 6 Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Adoption status.   Prior to his work with Adventist, McLendon served as vice president and chief information officer for Bayfront Health System in St. Petersburg. He also has held senior IT leadership positions with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, South Fulton Medical Center in Atlanta and Banner Health in Phoenix.   McLendon holds a bachelor’s degree in computer and information sciences from Jacksonville University and an MBA from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He also is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the Cerner Client Care Council, as well as being a certified professional in healthcare information and management systems by HIMSS.
