John McCoskey has been Chief Technology Officer of Public Broadcasting Service since April 2, 2007. Mr. McCoskey is responsible for providing leadership, management and technical guidance for broadcast technology and IT systems for PBS, overseeing a team of 130 employees. Mr. McCoskey joined PBS from Comcast where he served as Vice President of Product Development for Comcast Media Center since 2004. He is an inventor on 40 issued/published utility patents related to satellite communications, media distribution, digital media systems, targeted advertising, digital rights management, Internet video, electronic books and media search and delivery. Other professional experience includes serving as the Chief Technology Officer of Brief Original Broadcasts (BOB); President of Media Technologies; Senior Vice President of Operations, Your Choice TV; Senior Vice President of Technology and Chief Technology Officer at Discovery Communications; as well as positions at GTE Spacenet and Communications Satellite Corporation. He serves on the boards of PBS Enterprises and National Datacast, Inc. He serves as Member of Advisory Board at Digitalsmiths Corporation. He is an active member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), and the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM). He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. Mr. McCoskey holds two M.S. degrees from that institution, one in Management and one in Computer Science. He also earned a Bachelor of Science from Bucknell University in Electrical Engineering.
