Currently, Joanna Young was associate vice president for finance and budget and CIO at the University of New Hampshire, Young’s appointment is subject to approval by the MSU Board of Trustees. If approved, her appointment would be effective Aug. 26. In her current position, Young oversees applications and infrastructure supporting all university functions, including learning management systems, distance learning, networks, servers and data centers. Young has served as UNH’s chief information officer since May 2009 and associate vice president for finance and budget since September 2011. Prior to that she was with the Liberty Mutual Group, where she served in a variety of roles, including vice president and manager, customer support services (2003-07), and chief information officer, corporate systems and shared services (2007-09). Young led the largest federal grant in UNH history, a major cyber infrastructure expansion across the University System of New Hampshire and all 10 New Hampshire counties. Young has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from UNH. She also completed the AICPCU Insurance Executive Program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In her spare time Young can be found with her family – husband Darren and two daughters – or running, writing a novel, or re-reading the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
