Jamilah Fraser begins her job as Fresno Unified's Chief Information Officer on April 30, 2012. Her hiring, which comes with a $138,000 annual salary. She brings close to 12 years of communications experience to the Philadelphia School District. She began her career in local television stations in South Carolina and Missouri, earning two local Emmy's for her collaborative efforts in broadcasting. In 2004, Ms. Fraser assumed the role of Director of Programming at nationally available, Bridges TV, where she helped get the network up and running. There, she created the pilot for two original series that were sold at MIPTV in Cannes, France. She also served as a featured speaker at the 2004 National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) conference. Just over a year later, Ms. Fraser answered the call after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast and joined the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). There, she assisted tens of thousands of victims left in the aftermath of the storm. It was her charge to provide people with a lifeline of hope. Ms. Fraser has worn many hats at the agency, including External Affairs Officer, Research and Writing Lead and Broadcast Specialist. Ms. Fraser has produced several national hurricane preparedness public service announcements and an instructional video for children on disaster preparedness. In 2007 and 2008 she was on the ground with victims in California's wildfire and flood disasters. In her role as Chief of Communications, Ms. Fraser's immediate goals will be to establish a three-pronged approach to public relations--strategic communications, community engagement and broadcast operations. Ms. Fraser's plan is to implement a communications structure, create new programming for PSTV, enhance the District's social media presence, establish community initiatives and develop a robust internship program in cooperation with local colleges and universities. Having lived in 47 states in the last six years as a part of duty with FEMA, Ms. Fraser has a broad perspective of many of the nation's people and places. After spending five months in Philadelphia on a winter storm assignment with the Agency, she fell in love with the city and determined that she would one day make Philadelphia her home. She was thrilled when the opportunity arose for her to explore a position that was so naturally suited to her talents and experience. Ms. Fraser holds a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of South Carolina.
