About the Person

James Stewart joined the biopharmaceutical division of Merck KGaA in 2011 and has made important contributions to both the development of the pharmaceutical business and the transformation of Merck as a whole. Prior to joining Merck, he had a long and successful career with MSD (in the U.S.: Merck & Co.), where he started in Human Resources and progressed through several global business and functional leadership roles that resulted in organizational turnarounds through business process improvements and operation excellence programs. Stewart moved to Europe in 2001 to take on the position of Executive Director and International CIO at MSD, spanning EMEA, Canada, Latin America and Asia- Pacific. He then joined the Human Health division of the same company in 2007 and led a successful business transformation program across the EMEA region. In 2009, he was appointed Vice President and Program Realization Officer within the Emerging Markets business unit, where he led the efforts to develop and implement a business acceleration strategic plan. Stewart completed his university education in New York and New Jersey (USA), obtaining Masters of Business Administration degrees in Finance and Managerial Sciences, following a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Business Administration.
