About the Company
The NCH Healthcare System is a not-for-profit multi-facility healthcare system located in Naples, Florida. The system includes two hospitals (NCH Healthcare System – Downtown Naples Hospital and NCH Healthcare System – North Naples Hospital) with a total of 681 beds collaborating with 630 physicians to care for more than 32,000 patients each year. Outpatient facilities include Walk-in Centers, Wellness Centers, Rehabilitation Centers, Wound Care Facilities, and Infusion Centers in Naples, North Naples, Marco Island, Bonita Springs, and Estero. NCH`s Emergency Departments and outpatient facilities had over 120,000 visits for the past two years. Caring for all ages in the communities it serves, NCH performs almost 500 open heart surgeries and 3,400 newborn deliveries each year.
About the Person
Helen V. Thompson is the Chief Information Officer for the NCH Healthcare Systems. For the past two decades Thompson has worked as a CIO in the health care industry, assisting organizations to leverage technology to improve the delivery of care. Thompson has a proven track record of for helpig organizations leverage their technology investments from EMRs to HIEs. She has assisted organizations in growing the top line while leveraging technology to reduce expenses to improve the bottom line. Thompson co-developed the methodology Heartland used to ensure that their $55 million dollar EMR investment returned an equal amount of hard dollars savings. During her tenure with Heartland Health, the organization won the Baldrige award for which the technology was a foundational piece for Heartland’s winning application. Thompson has led the launched of three seperate health information exchange, Sunshine Connent, Lewis and Clark Information Exchange (LACIE) and Georgia Regional Academic Communty Health Information Exchange (GRAChIE) . Thompson has published multiple articles one IT Strategic Planning, governance and measuring the benefits of IT over the last few years. She has presented nationally and internationally on EMR Benefit Attainment. Thompson is a Fellow in the CHIME and Advisory Board Company. She is a member of HIMSS and ACHE. Thompson is currently serving as the President Elect, Heart of America, HIMSS Chapter. Thompson retired from a notable military career. She has served as the Deputy CIO Strategy and Vision, Naval Reserve Forces, the Communications Officer/CIO, EMF Dallas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2004–2005, and Medical CIO for the Joint Forces Command Surgeon. Thompson received her Masters of Science in Information Technology Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Winona State University, Winona, Minn., in MIS and CIS. In 2002, Thompson completed her certification as a Department of Defense CIO.
