San Antonio, TX-based United Services Automobile Association Retired Greg Schwartz as Chief Information Officer
In 1922, when 25 Army officers met in San Antonio, Texas, and decided to insure each other`s vehicles, they could not have imagined that their tiny organization would one day serve millions of members and become one of the only fully integrated financial services organizations in America. We believe they would be pleased to know that USAA has remained true to their founding values of service, loyalty, honesty and integrity.
Greg Schwartz is CIO for USAA and SVP of IT Services. He is responsible for ensuring that IT solutions are economically viable, efficient and meets USAA's business requirements. As CIO, he oversees the IT systems behind the multiple channels used to serve USAA's more than 8 million members. Schwartz’s leadership as CIO over the past seven years has led USAA to be recognized each of those years, by Computerworld Magazine as one of the top 10 companies to work for in IT in the U.S. In 2010 and again in 2011, USAA was chosen the #1 Best Place to work in IT. Schwartz was named to his current position in 2004 and has been with the company since 1983. During his more than 28 years at USAA, he has held many diverse leadership positions where he gained experience in all aspects of IT support. As an application systems executive, he led the IT organization that supported some of the company's most strategic enterprise programs, including USAA's e-commerce program and the customer relationship management program. These systems now provide product-line integration and the application infrastructure that integrate the company's diversified businesses. Schwartz earned his bachelor's degree in management information systems from Texas State University in 1982. He earned his master's degree in finance from St. Mary's University where he graduated with honors in 1989.
