About the Person

Gary Herman is responsible for the Information Services function at Unified Grocers. During his tenure at Unified, Gary has led the successful systems integration in support of the 1999 merger between United Grocers and Certified Grocers of California, as well as the integration of systems resulting from Unified’s acquisition of Associated Grocers, Seattle, Wash., in 2007.  Under Gary’s direction, Unified maintains state-of-the-art Logistics Systems and an extranet that ties together the Company’s vendors, buyers and retail members with a focus on new items, cost changes and deals. Prior to joining Unified in 2000, Gary spent 18 years at Los Angeles-based Ralphs Grocery Company (now a division of Kroger) in the Application Development Organization, holding various management positions.  In 1996, he was promoted to the position of Vice President. Gary has a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), with a major in Finance, and a Masters of Management degree from Northwestern University.  In addition, he is a Certified Public Accountant.  Before joining Ralphs Grocery Company, Gary was employed for four years as a consultant for Arthur Andersen in Cleveland, Ohio.
